Profile
If things get political in the sporting world, you can bet that American journalist Dave Zirin has voiced an opinion. Over the past decade, no one has kept their finger on the pulse of the evolving sports-politics interface more than Zirin. Frequently writing for The Nation, The Progressive, SLAM Magazine, SI.com and appearing regularly on radio and television, he often promotes the idea that athletes can play a significant role in beneficial societal and political change.
Hailing from the liberal end of the spectrum, Zirin rarely hesitates to criticize professional team owners, NCAA administrators or IOC officials when the opportunity presents itself. He consistently expresses enthusiasm for the Green Bay Packers – the only publicly owned team in professional sports – recommending the team as the model for other cities.
