Barbara Ehrenreich

Profile

Born in Butte, Montana in 1941 – her father was a copper miner at the time – writer and activist Barbara Ehrenreich has been raising hell with her pen and keyboard for over four decades. Studying chemistry at Reed College in Portland, OR and subsequently receiving a PhD in cellular immunology from Rockefeller University, she initially became active politically while protesting the US invasion of Vietnam.  Since then, she has gone on to become one of the most respected voices on the liberal end of the political spectrum.  Most famous for Nickel and Dimed, her undercover investigation of the life of low wage workers at the end of the 20^th century, she has written more than twenty books and dozens of essays and newspaper columns.  A life-long atheist, mother of two and recent breast cancer survivor, she explores her occasional unexpected metaphysical experiences in her most recent book, Living with a Wild God.
