Jonathan Raban (b. 1942) is an award-winning British travel writer and novelist. First writing about the Middle East in 1979, he has gone on to explore the Mississippi River, Great Britain, eastern Montana and the Inside Passage of the Pacific Northwest. He rarely hesitates to let his own political leanings show and was openly critical of the Bush Administration in his 2006 book, My Holy War. He has lived in Seattle since 1990.
